Whether you’re looking for family-friendly trick-or-treat trails, fun costume contests, or festive fall activities, Northern Virginia has plenty to offer. From pumpkin patches to community trunk-or-treats, this season is packed with exciting events for all ages. Dulles South Trick or Treat Trail

October 25, 5–8 p.m. 

Trick or treat along the trail, gather candy and prizes, and pick a pumpkin from the patch. Costumes are encouraged! Registration must be completed by 5 p.m. on October 24. Dulles South Recreation and Community Center: 24950 Riding Center Dr., South Riding, $5 

Halloween on the Farm 

October 25, 5–8 p.m. 

Experience fall festivities at the farm with trick-or-treating, farm animal visits, crafts, games, and tours of the decorated farmhouse. You must register for a one-hour time slot online. Frying Pan Farm Park: 2709 West Ox Rd., Herndon, $10 

Halloween House and Trick-or-Treat Trail

October 25–26, 5:45–8:30 p.m. 

Join a nature-themed trick-or-treat trail featuring costumed characters and real animals, plus a Halloween House with light and sound effects. Enjoy apple cider, popcorn, and games in a fun, non-scary environment. Register for a one-hour time slot by October 23. Walker Nature Center: 11450 Glade Dr., Reston, $15–$20 

American Girl Trick or Treat

October 26–27, 31 

American Girl is hosting trick-or-treat days in its store. Children who visit in costume will receive a sweet treat, making for a fun and festive shopping experience. American Girl: 8090 Tysons Corner Ctr., McLean, free 

Trick or Treatment

October 26, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. 

Enjoy trick-or-treating while learning about wastewater treatment and the environment through various activities hosted by local organizations. H.L. Mooney Water Reclamation Facility: 1851 Rippon Blvd., Woodbridge, free 

Air & Scare

October 26, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. 

The annual Halloween event features both indoor and outdoor activities. While tickets for the outdoor portion are sold out, the indoor event is open to all and includes trick-or-treat stations, crafts, science demonstrations, puppet shows, and photo ops with Star Wars characters. Costumes are allowed, but masks are restricted for those over 16. Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center: 14390 Air and Space Museum Pkwy., Chantilly, event is free, parking is $15 

Boo Bash 2024

October 26, 1–4 p.m. 

Enjoy trick-or-treating, musical performances, pumpkin decorating, face painting, and children’s entertainment at the Cascades Overlook shopping center. Participating retailers will have promotions and giveaways. Cascades Overlook: 21399 Epicerie Plz., Sterling, free 

Monster Mash 2024

October 26, 1–5 p.m. 

Come to the Village at Leesburg’s annual Monster Mash for a day of Halloween fun. The event features pumpkin carving; trick-or-treating; costume contests for kids, families, and pets; and activities like cookie decorating and face painting. Trunk-or-Treat

October 26, 2–4 p.m.

Trick-or-Treating at Mount Vernon

October 26, 2–6 p.m. 

Mount Vernon’s Halloween event features trick-or-treating around the historic grounds, 18th-century entertainment, and interactive activities. Families can enjoy a costume parade, crafts, and visits with historical figures like Lady Washington. Highlights include a puppet show, live music, and demonstrations such as soap-making, blacksmithing, and baking with American Heritage Chocolate. Old Firehouse’s Festival of Frights & Trunk or Treat

Trick or Treating at Shipgarten

October 27, 12–6 p.m. 

Check out a live performance from actors dressed as the witchy trio, the Sanderson Sisters, from Hocus Pocus, plus trick-or-treating at over 10 stations, face painting, arts and crafts, live music, and a magic show. Trunk or Treat

October 27, 3–5 p.m. 

This family-friendly event, hosted by New Life Christian Church, features creatively decorated cars, candy, games, and community fun. Everyone is welcome to wear costumes and enjoy a festive afternoon together. The nZone: 14550 Lee Rd., Chantilly, free 

Drive-Thru Trunk-or-Treat

October 27, 6–8 p.m.
