Watch National Mall Fireworks Without Leaving Northern Virginia!

Watch DC’s National Mall Fireworks Without the Drive!

Northern Virginia offers some fantastic spots to enjoy the July 4th fireworks, with the added bonus of avoiding the National Mall's crowds. Here are some top vantage points to consider:

Gravelly Point:

Located near Reagan National Airport, Gravelly Point is a beloved spot for plane watchers. Its prime location on the west bank of the Potomac River also makes it an ideal place to view the fireworks lighting up the National Mall.

LBJ Memorial Grove:

Technically within DC’s boundaries, this serene spot is worth mentioning. The grove, where President Johnson used to relax, features winding paths, white pines, a granite monolith, and a sprawling meadow. From the lawn in front of the memorial, you’ll have a stunning view of the National Mall's fireworks.

Marine Corps War Memorial:

Perched atop Arlington Ridge, the Marine Corps War Memorial offers a breathtaking panorama of the National Mall. You’ll see the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and the Capitol, all set against the backdrop of the Independence Day celebrations.

Mount Vernon Trail:

This 18-mile trail stretches from George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate to Roosevelt Island, running alongside the Potomac River. With its unobstructed views of the DC skyline, it’s a perfect spot for watching the fireworks.

Netherlands Carillon:

Located between the Marine Corps War Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, the Netherlands Carillon and its 53 bells provide a picturesque setting. The grounds offer sweeping views of DC and the vibrant fireworks display.

Heading to DC:

If you opt to venture into DC for the fireworks, remember they’re scheduled to start at 9:09 p.m. Access to the National Mall will be restricted, requiring you to pass through a security checkpoint before reaching the area between the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial. Another viewing option is around the Washington Monument, though the plaza and the monument itself will be closed, as will the rest of the monuments on the Mall.

Enjoy the celebrations and have a safe and spectacular Independence Day!
